WHAT TO SEE
The Caves of Castellana are located in the municipality of the same name which is about 40 km from Bari, and are a “gateway” to the beautiful Valle d’Itria. Inserted in the context Trulli Riviera they are in a strategic position for the tourist or the traveler. They are indeed located in a real crossroads of scenic wonders.
In fact, 15 km from the Caves of Castellana is the enchanting village of Alberobello, known throughout the world and a UNESCO heritage site. From there, continuing along the Itria Valley by car, you will reach Locorotondo in less than 20 minutes, a bright white Apulian village located on the top of a hill, after which the renowned white wine is named – perfect for the summer .
Then, continuing further, you reach Cisternino, a charming town known for its “Dolce Vita” at night and the goodness of its meat specialties.
And then what about Martina Franca, a masterpiece of Baroque art!
Driving through a landscape made of Trulli and olive trees, the road finally leads to Ostuni, the white city, and definitely another must-see.
From Castellana Grotte you can reach enchanting villages such as Polignano a Mare, which is less than 15 km from the Caves, and which offers a breathtaking spectacle. The old town overlooks the sea from a breathtaking fortress-like cliff.
Driving towards Taranto, only a short ride from the Caves, you can easily reach Altamura, famous for the excellence of its bread, or the wonderful Matera, a magic town of cave-dwellings dug in the local rock layers, with a truly unique and mystical atmosphere.
And then the sea! The coast with its beautiful beaches and nightlife venues such as the Capitolo in Monopoli can be reached in twenty minutes by car. And from there continuing south you can enjoy the sea of Puglia all the way to the Salento.
Without forgetting that all the surroundings of Castellana Grotte are dotted with amazing sceneries, Trulli, fortified farmhouses and, above all, restaurants, taverns, steakhouses, holiday farmhouses for all tastes, where the food is a true triumph for the palate.
